The Kathmandu – Tibet Tour is a captivating journey through the spiritual and cultural heart of the Tibetan Plateau, offering travelers a unique opportunity to experience Tibetan life, monasteries, and Himalayan landscapes. Beginning with a flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa, the tour immediately immerses visitors in Tibet’s sacred city, home to the iconic Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and bustling Barkhor Street.

From Lhasa, the journey moves eastward to Tsedang, one of Tibet’s oldest settlements, where ancient monasteries and the Yarlung Valley reveal the region’s rich history. Continuing to Gyantse and Shigatse, travelers witness traditional Tibetan towns, imposing dzongs, and monastic life, with stunning Himalayan backdrops. A highlight of the tour is the visit to Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world, situated at the base of Mount Everest. Here, guests can enjoy breathtaking views of the north face of Everest and the surrounding high-altitude peaks.

Itineraries

Fly by China Airlines about a 1-hour flight to Lhasa from Kathmandu.

Lhasa is located at an altitude of 11,850ft. Lhasa is the cultural and economic center of Tibet. You can visit different places like Potala, the 13 story, 1000 rooms palace of the Dalai Lama, the legendary monasteries of Drepung and Sera, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama and many more in Tibet. You can enjoy the evening night by walking on the street filled with innumerable shops. Overnight stay at a hotel.

You will meet your guide at the hotel and first take you to visit the famous Potala Palace. It is the cardinal landmark of Tibet and the masterpiece of Tibetan architecture. Potala Palace is also listed on the world heritage site.

In the afternoon, you will go to visit Jokhang Temple in the center of the old Lhasa city. Jokhang Temple is one of the holiest temples all over Tibet and it is always bustling with earnest local pilgrim since from old times. And then, you will take a stroll around Barkhor Street which is one of the most devotional circuits as well as a crowded central market of Lhasa, located in the old area of Lhasa City Tibet. Overnight stay at a hotel.

After breakfast, you will drive about 3 hours to Tsedang Town. This town is the birthplace of Tibetan Civilization, as well as the place, has played an important role in the development of Tibetan Buddhism. You will visit two famous attractions places in Tsetang.

In the afternoon, there are two historical places are waiting for your visit and they are Yumbulakang and Trundruk monastery. Yumbulakang is also known as the Tibet’s first palace. It has a very long history of over 2,000 years and also boasts many rare sculptures and paintings from old times. While exploring the Trundruk monastery, you will see astonishing Tangkha of Pearls decorated with a total of 29,026 pearls. Overnight stay at a hotel.

After breakfast, leaving Tsedang and a long drive of 310 km,  it will take about 5-6 hours. We will drive over two magnificent high passes that are Kampa la and Karo La. The landscape of the Tibetan Plateau is truly unusual and beautiful. We will arrive in Gyantse an old Tibetan Town from 14th-15th century fortress and temple. In here, you will see the architectural masterpiece built in the style of 108-sided Mandela known as Kumbum Stupa. Overnight stay at a hotel.

Today, you will visit the second largest town in Tibet known as Shigatse. Shigatse can also be known as the first town to be visited by westerners due to the close Indian border. Tashilumpo Palace is a famous place to visit in the Shigatse. In this palace, there is about 39 astonishing Chapel.  You can see Maitre Chapel coated with gold, Tushita Chapel containing one thousand small statues of Tsongkhapa and many other Chapels. Overnight stay at a hotel.

With our breakfast, our journey began with 180/km to Lhaze crossing the Gyatso La pass. Continuing our drive we arrive at New Tingri and then we make the permit for Everest Base camp and again proceed to reach our destination that is Rongbuk. Rongbuk is also known as the land of snow and regarded as the highest monastery in the world. Then from 8km walk you can reach the Everest Base camp and explore Everest. Overnight stay at a hotel.

After breakfast, you drive to Old Tingri via Doya la pass. After continuing the drive to Zhangmu we will bypass Lalungla and Nyalam. After arriving at Zhangmu you will get to see panorama view of Himalayas. Overnight Stay at a hotel.

After taking your breakfast, today your journey will begin to the beautiful city of Nepal that is Kathmandu. Drive from Zhangmu to Friendship Bridge and completing the Chinese Immigration process than cross the bridge by Walking. Again you will be completing the Nepali immigration process and drive 115/km to Kathmandu. On the way to Kathmandu, you can see the different picturesque views of different things like a river, mountain, land, and forest.
